Pipeline Buoyancy

High ground water offers significant challenges in controlling buoyancy issues with submerged pipes. Stormwater, as well as pipelines in the oil and gas industry, traditionally use “high impact” solutions such as concrete lining or sleeves and rock filled geotextile sacks. These can be replaced with Platipus percussion driven earth anchors (PDEA®). PDEA® can be easily and quickly driven with conventional construction tools with little soil disturbance and is considered a low impact solution. Made of lightweight corrosion resistant materials, they are suited to a wide range of design life requirements and holding capacities. Standard pipe strapping solutions include a 1, 2 and 10 ton anchoring system composed of (2) anchors, webbing and tensioning device. The Engineer of Record (EOR) can simply calculate the buoyant effect on the pipeline and the PDEA® can be field certified to the required load.
